Every fitness coach knows that if you want to lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you take in. But according to Dr. Katan and Dr. Ludwig who recently published an article in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA, January 6, 2010—Vol 3030, No. 1), weight change is self-limiting. They calculated that if you eat an extra cookie every day, your weight gain will level off at about 6 pounds, even if you continue to eat the extra cookie. That sounds great! Go ahead and eat that cookie and don’t worry about hiring a fitness coach or a personal weight loss coach.

A Personal Weight Loss Coach Knows that a Cookie Can Set a Precedent

.

The reason why people need either a personal weight loss coach or a fitness coach is that the converse is also true. If you stop eating that cookie, you will initially lose weight. But as the size of your body decreases, it needs less fuel or calories to function. In addition, weight loss causes changes in hormones which make the body conserve energy. This is why most people gain more weight than they initially lost after they stop exercising or go off their diet.

Can a Fitness Coach Stop the Inevitable Weight Gain of Growing Older?

.

So according to Dr. Katan and Dr. Ludwig’s model, why bother with a fitness coach or personal weight loss coach? It seems pointless. The average young adult gains about 1 or 2 pounds every year. By middle age, the damage is done.

A Fitness Coach Also Wants to Know What’s In Your Head

.

But there are people who lose weight and even keep it off. How is that possible? One of the most important things that a fitness coach or personal weight loss coach can do is to help people realize that diet and exercise are not enough to ensure long-term weight loss. It’s not just about calories; it’s also about the psycho-social aspects. It’s about people’s beliefs and language patterns around food, and their peer group’s influence.

Calories are Only One Concern of the Personal Weight Loss Coach

.

More important than counting calories, measuring food, and measuring how long we exercise; we need to restructure our beliefs about the purpose of food. As a fitness coach or personal weight loss coach, you have a responsibility to take on the larger problem. This means going after the core issues instead of skimming the surface.

Colette Seymann JTS Advisors
Bi-Designated Strategy and Accountability Coach

noreply@blogger.com (Jeffrey T. To Grow Your Life Coaching Business Or Coaching Practice

(My Original Blog Post: http://ping.fm/kqcDD)
One of the most powerful ways to grow your coaching practice into a successful life coaching business is asking for help. The key in asking for help to grow your life coaching business is to clearly define what you want. Then ask people to help you get what you want. To build a coaching practice, you will need people to offer free sessions to. Here is the best strategy you can learn to take your life coaching business to the next level.

Use POI’s To Help You Build Your Coaching Practice Into a Booming Life Coaching Business

.

The best way to quickly grow your coaching practice is to get help from “POI’s”. A “POI” is a Person Of Influence. The average person knows 250 people, and 25 people just like them. Everyone has a network (list of people who know them), but not everyone is a “POI”. A “POI” is a person of influence that has your ideal life coaching business prospect in their network.

Build Your Coaching Practice By Doing What the “Big Boys” Do Outside of the Life Coaching Business Industry

.

To get your coaching practice to the next level, do what the big boys do. One of the ways big business gets done is large companies share each other’s networks. One example of this is Starbucks and Barnes & Noble. Years ago, Starbucks approached Barnes & Noble with the idea of putting Starbucks inside of several Barnes & Noble stores. The idea was a huge hit and Starbucks got their coffee shop inside 500 Barnes & Noble stores overnight. Starbucks used the “POI” Strategy. They shared the network of Barnes & Noble. Starbucks has repeated this strategy with several other networks. They have done this strategy with restaurants, hotels, churches, and grocery stores. You can do the same thing in your life coaching business.

Here’s how you can do this for your coaching practice. Identify “POI’s” that you can approach to share networks with your life coaching business. Write down as many “POI’s” as you can think of. Then go to them and ask them if they would be interested in actively supporting each other to grow each other’s businesses. If only 1 or 2 of them work with you, it will easily take your coaching practice to the next level in the big picture of your life coaching business’s overall success.

Kris Thompson
JTS Advisors Strategy Coach

noreply@blogger.com (Jeffrey T. When you become a parenting coach, your purpose is helping parents help their children. All parents want for their children to have successful lives. When you become a life coach, you know that helping your clients to set goals is fundamental to their success. Most adults don’t understand how to set goals and achieve them. How do you become a parenting coach that helps parents learn how to teach their children goal setting? There are three steps to helping young children start setting and achieving goals.

Become A Life Coach: Become A Parenting Coach That Teaches Parents The ABC’s of Goal Setting For Kids

.

You are able to become a life coach when you can help people get results in their lives. When are you able to become a parenting coach? When you can teach that goal setting for kids is like the ABC’s. The ABC’s of goal setting for kids is the formula “GSA”.
GSA stands for “Goal, Strategy, Action”.

The Secret To Become A Life Coach (Or Become A Parenting Coach) That Gets Results Is “Goal, Strategy, Action”

.

The formula to become a life coach, or to become a parenting coach, that makes goal setting simple is “goal, strategy, action”. Here are the three steps:

• Ask, what does your client, or the child, want?
• Develop a strategy to get it.
• Take massive action on a daily basis!

For example: One parent I know named Debbie had a 10-year-old son. Her son wanted a video game. He was clear on what he wanted. He asked Debbie to buy the game for him. She wanted to teach him a lesson, so she had him develop a strategy to purchase the game partly from money he earned. The game was on sale at a certain price, on a certain day. Debbie asked her son what he could do (strategy) to create the money for half of the price of the game and she would pay the rest.

He determined he could wash the car, and he could cut his neighbor’s grass. Just as anyone who wanted to become a life coach would do, he immediately took massive action! First, he washed the car. Then he knocked on all his neighbor’s doors and received permission to cut their grass. Debbie’s son was able to create the money (and get to the store just in time) to get the game he wanted.

Imagine how powerful it would be to become a life coach or become a parenting coach who could make goal setting so simple. Imagine how valuable it would be to teach these powerful principles to parents. goal. The place was packed, as I knew they would be. At least for the next month, when things taper off. I was thinking about what it takes to become a health coach who keeps their clients on track, because by summer, only the dedicated and committed will still be at the gym. If you are to become a health coach who really makes a difference, you need to know what separates those who stick with their health coaching goals and those who quit.

When You Become a Health Coach You Need to Figure Out What Motivates Your Clients

.

The first tool you’ll need to become a health coach who gets lasting results is to see what motivates your clients. In health coaching, most clients are more committed to being comfortable than to doing what it takes to meet their goals. I noticed my own commitment to comfort over the holidays when my mentor suggested a 10-day cleanse to get rid of a lingering cold. I had family coming into town, and the thought of dealing with the cold was easier than dealing with my family’s reaction.

A New Peer Group Can be Essential for Those Seeking Health Coaching

.

Which brings us to the next tool you’ll need to become a health coach who gets lasting results: an empowering peer group. For most who seek health coaching in order to transform their health in a major way, they’ll need a new peer group. If I’m not at the gym for more than a few days, people ask where I’ve been. If I’m slacking off during the class, the trainers and my peers are on top of me. That’s empowering. But most people have to deal with friends or family who sabotage their efforts instead.

To Get Lasting Results as You Become a Health Coach You Must Help Your Clients Change Their Beliefs

.

And finally to become a health coach who gets lasting results you must help people change their beliefs. If people feel they are doomed to fail in achieving their health coaching goals, they won’t get started. If they don’t feel they deserve good health they will sabotage their efforts. And if they don’t acknowledge their efforts and reward themselves they will loose hope. As their health coach it is up to you to find out, not only their stated beliefs that have kept them from achieving their goals in the past, but their unstated or underlying belief that they don’t even acknowledge to themselves.

Without the right tools it’s almost impossible to become a health coach who gets lasting results. Health coaching is much more than goal setting, accountability and ‘how-to’ strategy. It’s really about making an internal transformation in who your clients see themselves and who they become.

Colette Seymann

JTS Advisors Bi-Designated Strategy and Accountability Coach

noreply@blogger.com (Jeffrey T. As a fitness coach, you are always helping your clients improve their health. One way to help your clients with their health is to become their personal weight loss coach. A common reason people get a personal weight loss coach is to look or feel better. They came to you as a fitness coach because they want to improve their health, and weight loss is one way to achieve that goal. When your clients look to you as their fitness coach and want to find ways to lose their weight, there are two things you can do as their personal weight loss coach to help your clients on the path to set goals they can reach.

As A Fitness Coach; Your Job Is To Help Your Clients Decide EXACTLY What They Want And Write It Down

.

As a personal weight loss coach, have your client decide exactly what they want. How do you do that? Help them to be as specific as they can. If they say, “I want to lose weight,” and you helped them lose one pound, would you be a good fitness coach? Of course not, because losing one pound isn’t what they really want. In order to find out what it is they really want, have your client choose a specific goal. This can be as easy as identifying a target weight. For example, if their goal is to weigh 185 pounds and they now weigh 228 pounds, their goal is to lose 43 pounds.

Personal Weight Loss Coach Tip: Make Sure Your Client’s Weight Loss Goal Is Measurable

.

For a goal to be a goal, it must be written down. Once your personal weight loss coach client has written the goal down, look at the goal to see if it is measurable. What I mean by “measurable” is that you, as their fitness coach, will have a way to know when they have accomplished their goal. In our example, your client’s goal is to weigh 185 pounds, or to lose 43 pounds. It is measurable, so you can monitor it. This is the only way to know whether you’re getting the result for your client.

If your fitness coach client’s goal is not measurable, then go back and rewrite it until it clearly measurable. In order to be successful as a personal weight loss coach, helping your client write goals that you both can track progress with will help to stay motivated and celebrate successes.

Kris Thompson
JTS Advisors Strategy Coach

noreply@blogger.com (Jeffrey T. It’s an age-old problem. When your client gets off their call with you as their motivational coach they are so pumped up! Then a few hours or days pass, and they go back to what they have always been doing. Why don’t life coaching clients stay motivated and keep taking action toward their goals? Because they don’t have a compelling enough reason to achieve them. We will now consider two things you must do to keep your life coaching clients deeply motivated to accomplish their goals.

As A Motivational Coach You Must Connect Your Client To The “Hell” They Will Experience If They Don’t Accomplish Their Goal

.

After you have your life coaching client write their goal down, have them write a paragraph about it. The paragraph needs to start with a description of the “hell,” or consequences, they will experience if they don’t accomplish their goal. What will it cost them in life and in their life coaching? At the end of the paragraph, have them write down the “heaven” that will result if they do accomplish the goal. If your client’s reason for achieving the goal is greater than the obstacles they will face, then they will be much more likely to achieve the goal with you as their motivational coach. If not, you will have your work cut out for you.

Your Life Coaching Client is Motivated By Two Things: Gaining Pleasure And Avoiding Pain

.

Here is an example: Imagine you are one of your motivational coach clients. You have been smoking a pack of cigarettes every day for 20 years. You have had a goal to quit smoking for the last five years because you know smoking is bad for you. You’ve tried hypnosis, gum and quit smoking seminars, but nothing seems to work. You go to the doctor. The doctor confirms your worst fears. You have lung cancer. If you quit smoking now you will have 10 years to live. If you keep smoking you will die in one year. Would you be able to quit smoking? I think most people would, with or without a motivational coach. Even though for the last five years the goal was unsuccessfully met, you would instantly have a strong enough reason to accomplish the goal. In a way, you would become your own motivational coach.

By writing down their life coaching goals, and the “heaven” and “hell” associated with them, your clients are creating a tool that they can use whenever they need a dose of their motivational coach. Your life coaching clients can read the paragraph they wrote whenever they don’t feel like taking action to give them a surge of motivation right when they need it most.

Kris Thompson
JTS Advisors Strategy Coach

noreply@blogger.com (Jeffrey T.
